Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) invites applications from Indian as well as foreign nationals for admission to PhD, M.Tech., M. Des. and MS (By Research) programmes 2021-22-I Semester (commencing from July, 2021) in the various departments/interdisciplinary programmes. Interested candidates who are satisfying the eligibility criteria must apply before 15th April 2021 for the desired programmes.

IIT Kanpur PG Admission 2021: Eligibility Criteria

The minimum marks/CPI (Cumulative Performance Index), implies 55% marks /5.5 (on a 10 point scale) (as long as it is not less than the minimum pass marks/CPI)else, the specified minimum marks/CPI implies the minimum pass marks/CPI.
Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes having basic qualifying degree are eligible to apply irrespective of the marks/CPI.
Students who are in the final year of their qualifying degree programme (likely to finish by July 15, 2021) may also apply.

Programme	Eligibility Criteria
M.Tech	Bachelor's degree in engineering or science with minimum of 55% marks/5.5 CPI, OR A valid GATE score is required in the case of regular (non-sponsored) candidates. The requirement of GATE score is waived off for the candidates with the B.Tech/B.S (4 Year) degree from IITs (With a minimum overall CPI of 6.5 and a minimum CPI of 8.0 in the last 2 years in B.Tech/B.S )
M.S	Bachelor's degree in engineering or science or a Master's degree (science) (marks/CPI not below the 55 percent marks /5.5 CPI)
Ph.D	Master's degree in Engg (marks/CPI not below the 55 % marks /5.5 (on a 10 point scale), OR Bachelor's degree in Engg or science 4-year with a min. of 75 percent marks/7.5 CPI, OR Candidates with a master’s degree in science with a valid GATE score or have qualified for JRF/NET.

IIT Kanpur PG Admission 2021: Financial Assistance

Financial support is given to the regular (non-sponsored) students of M.Tech./M. Des./MS and PhD Programmes in the form of Institute Assistantship
The student has to carry out the assigned duties. M.Tech./MS (By Research) are currently entitled to a monthly stipend of ₹12,400/- (for 8 hours of work per week).
For PhD students, the financial support amounts to ₹ 31,000 (first 2 years), and after that, it is raised to ₹ 35,000 (for another 3 years).
They can also avail financial assistantship from any other external funding agencies (such as UGC/CSIR/NBHM etc.).

For General and OBC candidates: ₹ 500
For SC/ST and all PD candidates (including General and OBC): ₹ 250
The application fee is waived for 'Foreign National' candidates.

When and how can I apply for the PG programmes at IITK?

You can apply through the online portal between March 23, 2021 and 11:59 pm on April 15, 2021.

What are the fees to be paid at the time of application submission?

If you are a GENERAL category or OBC category candidate, then you have to pay Rs. 500 per application. If you belong to SC, ST or DAP categories, then you have to pay Rs. 250 per application

: I want to apply for multiple programmes in the same department (e.g. MTech, MSR and PhD). Do I need to pay fee once or twice?

: For each application, you need to pay a separate fee

If I am shortlisted, would I need to appear for a test and/or interview?

Depending on the number of applications received, each department may set their own criteria for shortlisting candidates for test and/or interview. If you are shortlisted, you will be informed by the concerned department.

I fulfill the eligibility requirements for a programme. Is it assured that I will be shortlisted and called for test and/or interview?

Mere fulfilling of eligibility requirements does not ensure shortlisting. IIT Kanpur receives many applications and departments are free to set criteria higher than the minimum eligibility requirements.
