SBI Clerk 2016: Quant Section Analysis & Expected Cutoff

The State Bank of India is all set to conduct the Preliminary Examination for the post of Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales) & Junior Agricultural Associates in clerical cadre. Since, the exam is just around the corner, it’s time for you to gear up and begin with a final round of revision. We have already shared the SBI Clerk selection procedure so let's go ahead.

Below is a detailed analysis and expected cutoff of the Quantitative Aptitude Section which will help you to prepare better for the SBI Clerk Exam.

Quantitative Aptitude

Quant has always been the most difficult section in the SBI Clerk & PO Exam. This section generally includes questions from topics like Simplification, Number Series, Approximation, Data Analysis and Interpretation, Work and Time, Partnership, Simple and Compound Interest, Mensuration, Profit & Loss, Average, etc.

In the prelim exam, this section consists of 35 questions, of 35 marks. The expected pattern for Quant Section for SBI Clerk Prelims 2016 Exam is as follows:

1. Number Series - 5 Qs. (Easy to Moderate) 

2. Simplification / Approximation - 10 - 13 Qs. (Easy but calculative)

3. Data Interpretation - 5 Qs (1 set of DI) (Easy)

Note: (It is expected that SBI can change the pattern and add 2 sets of Data Interpretation of either - Bar Chart, Line Chart or Table Chart..  

4. Miscellaneous Question - 10 - 12 Qs (Easy to Moderate)

In – Depth Knowledge of All Topics

1. Number Series:

Number series tests present numerical sequences that follow a logical rule which is based on elementary arithmetic. An initial sequence is given from which the rule is to be deduced. You are then asked to predict the next number that obeys the rule.

2. Simplification:

Solving these questions needs a good calculation speed and a logical approach. Generally these questions are very easy and can be solved very fast using various shortcut techniques. Skip those questions, which require complex and large calculations.

3. Data Interpretation:

From this topic 5 questions can be expected in prelim exam. Data interpretation questions, that are relatively short, should be attempted first. Practice as many sets as you can. As your practice increases, you will find better and more efficient ways of representing the data and arriving at the final arrangement.

4. Miscellaneous:

There are almost 10 to 12 questions in the paper which deals with the questions dealing with percentage, ratio and proportions, average & ages, partnerships, profit and loss equations, calculations of simple and compound interests and questions related to other calculations dealing with percentages.

Expected Cut off

1. The expected cutoff of Quant section will be around 8 – 10 marks in SBI Clerk 2016 Exam. Also, take a look at SBI Clerk cut off for the previous year for a better idea.

2. Short cut to achieve success in SBI Clerk Prelim exam is to find and attempt easy questions first and manage the time very well.

3. You will be in the safe zone if you can attempt 15 – 18 questions with 100% accuracy.

4. Skip all the time-consuming questions and do them later when you are sure that you have attempted as many easy and scoring questions as you can.

5. Drop a question if it is taking much longer than your assigned time-per-question.
