Here we are providing the quant booster on the Height and Distance  for SSC CGL Tier 2. This is one of the most important chapters of the  Quant section and usually , covers 1 to 3 questions in mains exam. This chapter is related to Geometry . Here we will discuss some questions which are important for the SSC CGL Tier II. If you practice these questions then you will get sure benefit in mains exam.

1.If the ratio of length of a pen to its shadow is 1:√3, the angle of elevation of the source of light is:

Answer:30 degree

2. A balloon is connected to a meteorological station by a cable of length 200m, inclined at 60 degree to the horizontal. Find the height of the balloon from the ground. Assume that there is no slack in the cable

Answer:173.2

3. The banks of a river are parallel. A swimmer starts from a point on one of the banks and swims in a straight line inclined to the bank at 45degree and reaches the opposite bank at a point 20m from the point opposite to the starting point. The breadth of the river is:

Answer:14.14m

4. From the top of h metres high cliff, the angle of depressions of the top and bottom of a tower are observed to be 30 degree and 60 degree  respectively. The height of the tower is

Answer:2h/3

5. Two observers are stationed due north of a tower at a distance of 20m from each other. If the elevations of the tower observed by them are 30 degree and 45 degree respectively, then the height of tower is :

Answer:10(√3 +1 )m

6. A man on the top of a rock rising on a sea-shore observes a boat coming towards it. If it takes 20 minutes for the angle of depression to change from 30 degree  to 60 degree , how soon will the boat reach the shore?

Answer: 10 minutes

7. A vertical pole fixed to the ground is divided in the ratio 2:5 by a mark on it. The two parts subtend the equal angle at a place on the ground, 14m from the base of the pole. If the lower part is shorter than the upper one, then the height of the pole is

Answer:7√21m

8. P and Q are two points observed from the top of a building 10√3m high. If the angles of depression of the points are complementary and PQ=20m, then the distance of P from the building is:

Answer: 30m

9. Two poles of equal heights are standing opposite to each other on either side of a road which is 100m wide. From a point between them on road, angles of elevation of their tops are 30 degree  and 60 degree . the height of each pole is metre:

Answer:25√3

10. The angle of elevation of an aeroplane from a point on the ground is 60 degree. After 15 seconds flight, the elevation is flying at a height of 1500√3m, find the speed of the plane:

Answer:200m/sec

11. At the foot of the mountain the elevation of its summit is 45 degree; after ascending  4km towards the mountain up a slope of 30degree inclination, the elevation is found to be 60 degree , Find the height of the mountain

Answer:2(√3 + 1)km

12. A telegraph post is bent at a point above the ground due to the storm. Its top just meets the ground at a distance of 8√ 3 m from its foot and makes an angle of 30 degree , then the height of post is:

Answer: 24 m
