What is the importance of my Educational Background in Banking Sector?

By Jyoti Bisht|Updated : April 28th, 2022

There has been a constant discussion taking rounds on BYJU's Exam Prep and hence the repeated queries coming in through mails or in comments about a common problem;

1. How can my degree/educational background help me in my interview?

2. What attribute/significance can my degree bring into the Banking Sector?

3. What kind of questions can be asked and in what depth related to my qualifications/Educational Background?

There is a common link that can be seen in the above queries i.e. the importance associated to an individual’s educational qualification while he/she sets his ambition for Banking Sector. Therefore, this article aims to clarify the confusions regarding the same.

Here, we have tried to highlight few important points that can help Banking Aspirants, in a general way, to know more about the above:

1. First of all, every stream of education has its own set of benefits that helps in evolving and shaping an individual’s overall personality. So whatever you bring on the table will be well accepted by the panel. So don’t worry at all!

2. Again, you cannot underestimate yourself just by looking at your background of studies saying, ‘I cannot fit into this sector!’ It is a very wrong misconception that an individual will be judged based on his academic credentials only.

I. Every stream of studies has its own set of benefits.

Let’s say, A technical graduate having a B.TECH or a UG/PG in a science stream has the benefit of providing a technical perspective in developing or implementing any project or scheme.

For example –

Banking today is a flourishing industry, focused on technological innovation.

Internet banking has emerged as the biggest focus area in the

“Digital Transformation” agenda of banks.

These days Mobile banking continues to be a focus area for all banks in India. Also several banks are providing their services over online portals like Apps etc, to increase their customer engagement in urban areas, but also to reach out to new ones in rural regions.

So here  a great deal of contribution can be brought from technical graduates.

II. Another example could be individuals from Commerce Backgrounds.

A graduate with B.Com/M.Com Degree can have the upper hand of having an in-depth knowledge of the Commerce cum Banking Sector; Banking being an important aspect of the Commerce Sector.

(i) Also, Graduates with such dynamics of education (B.TECH/B Com. /M Com.) can add up multiple attributes to device quantifiable measures/approach in decision making, efficient allocation of resources and overall bringing the technical/commercial aspect of any project into picture.

III. Students from Humanities, Communication and Arts background

They hold a very strong ground when it comes to literature or writing skills or research works etc. Which is why, perhaps, they impress quite a lot of people with such exclusive talents.

Plus, they are also quite efficient with their communication skills and hence come across as winners, manifesting the best of soft skills to their clients in business or elsewhere. In almost every walk of life such qualities, if imbibed, brings more success and business to people.

Important Note –

(i) A lot of other qualities that an individual imbibes during the course of education are not just subject based. Though one can relate such qualities to several domains like Management, Public Relations, Social Science, Medicine, Education etc. and the avenues they offer.

Doing so, will help in better introspection and understanding of one’s own interest areas and what he/she wants to gain out of it. Hence, in future, benefiting the sector he/she is aiming for.

Ultimately, considering the above pointers,

one needs to concentrate upon the skills and functions

he/she has imbibed over his/her academic period.

It will help in identifying the attributes/qualities that has shaped his/her overall personality. It’s only then he would know the scope of contributions he/she can make in the upcoming sector for his job.

So friends, no need to worry at all!

Considering you are eligible for a position, you will always be well received irrespective of your educational backgrounds in any of the sectors you aim for. Just try to introspect/research a little on your skills and knowledge you gained from your set of academics.

Always remember, nothing is sacrosanct in this world!

So, go all out and explore…
