1. Saina Nehwal wins Gold at Malaysia Masters Grand Prix 2017

• India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal has won the Malaysia Grand Prix title by winning gold with a score of 22-20 22-20 in a 46-minute clash.
• She defeated Pornpawee Chochuwong from Thailand.
• This is her 23rd overall title.

Note:

• The 2017 Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold was the first grand prix's badminton tournament of the 2017 BWF Grand Prix Gold and Grand Prix.
• The tournament was held at the Sibu Indoor Stadium in Sarawak, Malaysia from 17–22 January 2017 and had a total purse of $120,000.

2. India wins the 3 match ODI Series by 2-1 against England

• England beat India by five runs in the third and final cricket One-day international in Eden Gardens Kolkata.
• The visitors made 321 for 8 in their 50 overs.
• England's Ben Stokes was declared Player of the Match for his fine all-round display, unbeaten 57  runs and three wickets for 63 runs.
• India's KM Jadhav was adjudged the Man of the Series.

3. Renowned Urdu poet and lyricist Naqsh Lyallpuri passes away

• Renowned Urdu poet Jaswant Rai Sharma (89-year) was popularly known to the world by his pen name, Naqsh Lyallpuri passed away in Mumbai.
• He was born in the town of Lyallpur in Punjab (now in Pakistan).
• He came to Mumbai in the late 1940s to make a career in Hindi cinema.
• His  best songs include: 'Main to har modh par', 'Na Jane kya hua, jo tune chhu liya', 'Ulfat me zamane ki har rasm ko thukroa' and 'Do deewane shaher mein'.

4. Sushmita Sen to be among the Judges panel for 65th Miss Universe Pageant

• 65th Miss Universe Pageant will be conducted on 30th January 2017 in Philippines.
• Roshmitha Harimurthy will represent India at the pageant.
• Earlier, Sushmita Sen had won her Miss Universe title in 1994 in Manila itself.

National Affairs

5. Govt sets up committee for implementation of Disabilities Act, 2016

• The committee aims to form rules that would avoid delay in the implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
• The committee will be headed by Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) and will also comprise of representatives from the Ministry of Health, DoPT, Labour, Legislative Department, and representatives from NGOs as members.

6. ASCI signs MoU with Ministry of Ayush to co-regulate misleading advertisements in the AYUSH sector

• Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with AYUSH ministry to regulate the misleading advertisements in this sector.
• This is related to advertisements on Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy drugs, treatments and related services,

7. VKAAO, theater on demand service launched by PVR cinemas

• This service by PVR is based on crowdsourcing. It will allow users to book shows of their choice.
• At present, PVR operates 562 screens in 122 properties in 48 cities in India.

8. N K Singh panel submits report on changes in FRBM Act

• Today, the N K Singh panel has submitted its report on changes in Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management, FRBM, Act to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
• The Committee was assigned to review the working of the FRBM Act over last 12 years to suggest the way forward.
• Earlier, thefive-memberr committee was set up in May last year following the announcement in Budget for comprehensive review and give recommendations on the FRBM roadmap for the future.

9. Ola cabs appoints former PepsiCo executive Vishal Kaul as COO

• Online cab Ola has appointed former PepsiCo executive Vishal Kaul as the new chief operating officer (COO).
• He succeeds Ola's first employee Pranay Jivrajka.
• Jivrajka will continue to lead key strategic initiatives in a new role as founding partner.
• Kaul has worked with PepsiCo for 18 years and holds a Bachelors in Engineering from Punjab Engineering College and an MBA from Symbiosis Centre for Management & HRD.
