About the Institute

IIT Mandi is - a youthful and a vibrant destination for the steadfast pursuit of knowledge and excellence. The laying of the foundation stone at Kamand, the site for the permanent campus of IIT Mandi, took place on 24^th February 2009. The IIT Mandi Cell was set up at the IIT Roorkee on 18^th March 2009, to steer the activities of the IIT Mandi.The IIT Mandi was registered as a society in Uttarakhand, on 20^th June 2009.

Programs Offered

The institute offers various post graduate programs in different fields of specializations opening the rich source of research activities for motivating candidates. The institute offers both full-time and part-time post-graduate programs to spread education in every corner of the nation through their such implicit methods. The programs offered are:

• Master of Science(M.S.) in Chemistry under the School of Basic Sciences
• Master of Science(M.S.) by Research and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) under the School of Computing & Electrical Engineering in following areas:
  • Signal Processing and Communication (Image processing and forensics, Wireless communication and networks, Information theory, RF, and Microwaves)
  • Power Engineering (Electrical machines and drives, Power electronics and Power systems).
  • Control and Sensor Systems (Control of power networks/microgrids, Mathematical control theory, Sensors, Instrumentation and measurements, Fault diagnosis.
  • VLSI, Semiconductor Devices and Embedded Systems (Analog and Digital VLSI, Semiconductor device design, modeling, and simulation; Device fabrication and Characterization; Microelectronics; Embedded Systems; IOT systems, Biomedical Systems)
  • Computer Science (Big data technologies, Artificial intelligence, Machine learning, Cognitive science, Human-computer interaction, Computer vision, Image processing and Biometrics, Formal verification, Distributed algorithms, Information theory)
• Master of Technology(M.Tech) under the School of Computing & Electrical Engineering in following areas:
  • M.Tech. in Electrical Engineering with specialization in VLSI
  • M.Tech. in Communications and Signal Processing
  • M.Tech. in Power Electronics and Drives

Eligibility Criterion

• For M.Sc., the candidate has to go through the written examination. Candidate should have Minimum Marks in B.Sc. 55% or CGPA 5.5 and has completed with major in chemistry/Applied Science.
• For M.S., the candidate should have completed B.E./B.Tech or Masters in appropriate Sciences with valid score in GATE/NET or equivalent national level examination or GRE in appropriate discipline.
• For Ph.D. in Engineering, the candidate should have completed M.E./M.Tech in relevant discipline with good academic record or candidate have GATE score with good academic record or candidate having 5 years of experience in relevant field with the good academic record will be waived off from GATE score requirement.
• For M.Tech., the Candidate should have completed B.E./B.Tech. from relevant discipline with good academic record and should have valid GATE Score.

Important Details

• The award of Half-teaching Research Assistantship (HTRA) shall be in accordance with prevailing norms of the Institute
• For admission to M.Tech./M.Sc program under regular/sponsored category, the concerned School shall adopt qualifying criteria for short-listing for interview/written test and prepare a merit list of selected candidates for interview/written test for all the categories
• There is a provision for meritorious students to convert from M.Tech./M.Sc. to a Ph.D. program.

Admission Procedure

• For M.Sc. Admissions, candidates have to qualify written exam, which will be conducted by IIT Mandi, followed by the interview.
• For M.Tech/M.S./Ph.D., admission will be based upon given eligibility criterion.
