English language is made up of four parts. These are -

GREEK ROOTS
GERMAN ROOTS
FRENCH ROOTS
LATIN ROOTS

Now if you learn these roots, you can figure out the meaning of hundreds of English language words without even knowing their exact meaning. Before we go further, let us answer some basic questions for you first.

What is a root?
A root is the part of the word which gives instructions to a word.

How many parts is a word made of?
A word is made up of three parts.

For example - Exported

Here 'Ex' is a prefix, 'port' is the root and 'ed' is the suffix.

Note: PREFIX is a word, letter or number placed before another.
SUFFIX is a letter or a group of letters added to the end of a word to change its meaning.

Now today we have taken 'Vis/Vid' as a ROOT which means See, Look at

Now with the help of this one root you can come out with conclusion of several other English words. Such as,

1) Visible - (Viz-eib-el) - Able to be seen

Usage - Water stains are visible on various parts of the interior roof.

2) Video - (Vid-eo) - The recording, reproducing, or broadcasting of moving visual images

Usage - Tom stopped the video.

3) Envisage - (In-viz-age) - Contemplate or conceive of as a possibility or a desirable future event

Usage - I don't envisage working with him again.

4) Invisible - (In-vizi-bl) - Unable to be seen

Usage - The gun can fire invisible rays.

5) Revise - (Re-wise) - Reconsider and alter (something) in the light of further evidence

Usage - Encouraging each student to revise his or her essay, the writing coach met with some of the writers individually.

6) Advice - (Ad-wise) - Guidance or recommendations offered with regard to prudent action

Usage - If you wish good advice, consult an old man.

7) Provisional - (Pro-vis-null) - Arranged or existing for the present, possibly to be changed later

Usage - We accept provisional bookings by phone.

8) Improvise - (Im-pro-wise) - Create and perform (music, drama, or verse) spontaneously or without preparation

Usage - The pianist forgot his music and had to improvise.

9) Visage - (Viz-age) - A person's face, with reference to the form or proportions of the features

Usage - The model’s visage earned her many cover photos.

10) Television - (Tele-vision) - A system for converting visual images (with sound) into electrical signals, transmitting them by radio or other means, and displaying them electronically on a screen

Usage - The television programme is designed to educate and not merely to entertain.
