IIT Jodhpur invites applications for admission to PhD programmes for the Semester commencing in December 2017. This is a golden opportunity for the students to extend their education to postgraduate level from IIT's. The intake of students will be carried out on basis of written test followed by an interview. IIT Jodhpur hosts PhD program in areas of technology, engineering, sciences, and humanities and social sciences. IIT Jodhpur admits students to the doctoral degree programmes in two categories:
I. Regular Full-Time PhD. Program
- Students admitted in this category shall not be a registered student in any other academic program in India or abroad, and shall not be a full-time or part-time employee of any organization in India or abroad. The students shall be eligible for financial assistance in the form of Teaching Assistantship or Research Assistantship as per norms of the Institute, or Scholarship or Fellowship as per norms of the funding agency, e.g., UGC, CSIR, DBT, NBHM, DST-INSPIRE, and DEITY (Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme)
II. Sponsored PhD. Program
- Students admitted in this category shall be a full-time Government employee and sponsored by Industry, Organization and National Laboratory equipped with research facilities and recognized by Department of Science and Technology (DST). The student shall not be eligible for any financial assistantship from the Institute. The student shall be allowed to carry out a part or all of her/his research in the parent Industry, Organization or National Laboratory, under the supervision of a Supervisor from IIT Jodhpur and a Co-Supervisor from the parent Industry, Organization or National Laboratory. The Co-Supervisor should have earned a PhD Degree herself/himself in the area of the research work of the student.

For the Semester commencing in December 2017, applications are invited in the following departments:
- Bioscience and Bioengineering: PhD positions are open in following areas- Role of mitotic kinases in cell functioning, in vitro & in vivo protein-protein interaction studies, Centrosome & microtubule functioning, Fluorescence microscopy & Live cell imaging, Molecular and Computational Biology.
- Chemistry: PhD positions are open in following areas- Solid-State NMR, Organometallic/ Coordination metal complexes, Multicomponent Reactions in Organic Synthesis, Synthesis of Heterocyclic Compounds by Cascade/Domino/Tandem Reactions, C-H functionalization/ activation reactions in organic synthesis, Catalysis, Sensor for environmental applications and Computational Chemistry.
- Electrical Engineering: PhD positions are open in following areas- Signal and Image Processing, Microelectronics, Communication.
- Humanities and Social Sciences: PhD positions are open in following areas- Philosophy.
- Mathematics: PhD positions are open in following areas- Wavelet Analysis, Image Processing.
- Materials Engineering: PhD positions are open in following areas- Deformation behaviour and relation with microstructure evolution, Phase transformation design and control of properties.
- Mechanical Engineering: PhD positions are open in following areas- Additive Manufacturing, CNC Machine Tools, Robotics, Multibody dynamics, Combustion, Sprays.

Important Details
- PhD students shall be offered Teaching or Research Assistantships in return for 8 hours of work per week.
- Institute will provide the financial assistantship to PhD students enrolled in Regular Full-Time PhD program as per funding agency norms.
