PLASTIC POLLUTION

Every year on 5th of june "World Environment Day" is celebrated. But this year it was something different not only "India" was host of this occasion it was also cleberated with critical theme-"Beat Plastic Pollution". Why this theme? Answer is very sorry state for it. We all know pollution on earth is growning day by day but off these pollution "Plastic Pollution" is the worst.Some 18 billion of plastic waste flow into ocean every year from costal region reports "National Geographic" .

What are plastic? A organic polymer having long chain hydrocarbon with high molecular mass derived from petrochemical. Apart from this major problem associated with plastic is they are non-biodegradble. In 1907 "Leo Backlend" invented plastic. Further "Hermann Staudinger "and "Herman Mark "contributed to material science of plastic. These scientiest must not have aniticipated this exponential growth of plastic prodution.

Plastic due to low cost and versality are used at different scale. It has become indispensable material in morden society. Arproximately 1 million bottle and 1 million plastic bags are used every minute around the world. About 50% of plastic used are of single use which constitute of 10% of total waste generated. India which account for 18% of world population and 2.4% of total world land area has accumulation of plastic waste is huge number around 15000 tonnes plastic waste is generated by indian 60 big cities report conducted in 2015.

Plastic due to their chemical composition decompose very slowly causing land near is in fertile. In relatity we cannot eliminate plastic use quicly.What is is needed is to Create awareness among people what are the hazzard of using plastic. Plastic waste mangement act 2016 should be stictly followed. Government should encourage people use eco friendly substitute like paper jute or cloth bags . We cannot transform our planet into "Plastic Planet" . A collective support from every section of society in needed to eradicate this menace.
