As defined by "child and adolscent labour act" child is a person who has not completed the age 14 years.Around 10.2 million children in India are engaged in child labour which constitutes of 13% of total work force.Uttar pradesh, Bihar, Mdhya pradesh, Maharasthra, Rajasthan are some indian cities with having biggest child labour. International labour organistion(ILO) defines child labour as work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity and that is harmful for their physical and mental health. However chilren who participate in helping their family member doing home chores are are not termed as child labour.
Poverty is one of the main reason for child labour. Children who are engaged in this labour force do not come from well settled family.Their parents are unemployed not having good degree to get job, they are illiterate because they have also suffered the same what their are suffering now..Parent of child send their childrens to urban cities because there is high demand of child labour in urban city.where they can earn and help them finacially.Children there engage in lots of activities such as rag picking, resturant, motor reparing shops, industries etc. Which is depriving their childhood and right to education. It also impedes their skill and education for futures. Child labour is both cause and consequence of poverty..It creates further perpetuity of household poverty across generation.
Child labours is vicious of poverty, unemployment, underemployment and low wages. Many NGOs such as "Bachpan Bachao", "Child fund", Talaash", "Kailash satyarthi childrenn foundation" etc are fighting aganist this menace. It is hoped that "Children of today are Future for Tomorrow" is well justified by us. To justify it there is an urgent need to revamp education sector. National awareness to invoke public intrest. Government should raise adequate measure to raise awrenesss among family. There needs to be big reform in child labour law.
