It is rightly said that World War III can be on “Water”  :- Yesterday Nations went to war for land, Today we are fighting for energy, and  tomorrow we will be fighting of water. The shortage of water i.e. safe drinking water is what prompted us to think about it. Many countries around the globe have been engulfed in this crisis from Cape town in South Africa to Chennai in India.

Rising population which led to persistent gap between demand and supply and negligence of people while utilising water for their use is one the prime cause of this scarcity. People are indiscriminately extracting  ground water which has led to decline in water table in many parts of world. To add to the crisis poor planning of cities at sake of development has also contributed to the same.

Shortage of water has impacted women at large. In many parts of India women have to travel long distances to fetch water. Shortage of water has also become  major obstacle to public health and development. One of the greatest threats to health remains is lack of access to safe drinking water. According to word bank estimates 21% of communicable diseases in India are linked to unsafe drinking water.

Recently Union Jal Shakti minister of India Gajendra Shekhawat  said that the Indian government would be providing clean drinking water to every household of the country by 2024. It is hoped that people of India gets safe water by 2024 but it can’t be possible without contribution of public. Micro irrigation like drip irrigation in agriculture rain water harvesting must be made mandatory. People should be taught about how they can save water. “Thousands  can live without love but not even a single one can live without water”
