Mathematics, the section which is often termed as difficult by JEE aspirants. No doubt, it involves deep conceptual understanding of topics but if approached and paid attention upon in the right way, it can improve your score by huge margin. So the question is, how to make it possible?

Don't worry, we will be telling you everything that you need to know for acing this section and JEE Main 2020. But it's a long process, follow it and gradually you will start loving this subject.

Steps To Success

Step 1- Know why you are not scoring good in this section or why are you scored of this section: Before anything, you need to introspect on certain things, which can only be answered by you. Why do you hate this subject?. Because, you have never tried to understand the basics properly or worked hard over it? Why can't you score even if you practice a lot? Because, you lack time managing skills or invest too much time in wrong questions? Find it out yourself and, make sure you work on correcting it.

Step 2- Strengthen the basics and knowing what to practice and learn: As we said, it's a process. Start with covering each chapter of NCERT first, jot down all the important formulas and concepts forming proper notes with simultaneously solving the problems. After covering NCERT, refer any standard book and repeat the process. Make sure you write down all the important concepts and formulas. Completing one book apart from NCERT is more than enough. Do a single book twice rather than following 3-4 books. Finish as many pens as you can, finish as many registers as you can. In the end, it will all be fruitful.

Step 3- Don't lose the pace, be persistent, be focused and use the time efficiently: Clearing any competitive exam is not about studying all the time, it's about studying the right amount of time in right way. Always study with a study plan, set targets and plan accordingly. Know the important chapters, give them more priority. Make sure you don't become irregular with studies in any phase of your preparation period. Constant hard work is crucial for getting the success.

Step 4- Know what you are targeting: Analyze the exam pattern previous year papers, see what is asked more and needs more attention. Go through articles, interviews of previous year toppers for knowing the method they followed or what worked for them. Frame the right approach and stick to it.

Step 5- Testing yourself at regular intervals: One thing that is surely going to help you is practicing diligently. Make it a habit, don't even miss a day where you don't do atleast 10 questions from any topic.

Step 6- Practicing full length mocks, previous year papers and short quizzes: Make sure you practice mocks and attempt previous year papers. It will give you an idea of how exam environment will be like and how you need to approach the exam or how much time you should allocate to each section.

Step 7- Analyzing your performance after every mock: It's not just about running, taking necessary pauses in between and thinking about your progress and weak areas is equally important. While analyzing your performance, not down all the mistakes that you committed and the respective topics. Revise them thoroughly again and make sure you don't repeat the mistakes.

Step 8- Stay motivated and persistent: Never lose the enthusiasm with which you started. Keep yourself motivated and positive. Believe me in the end, all of hard work pays off.

Tips to follow during the exam:-

  • Don't panic, stay calm and composed. If paper is seeming difficult, make mental adjustment about it and then start.
  • Set a time limit mentally, i.e. 1 hour for Mathematics section. Never set time more than 1 hour to any section in starting.
  • Start with attempting easy questions first, it will help in calming the nerves and increasing confidence.
  • Don't get relaxed, if your one section goes well. Maintain the pace throughout the exam. Relax only after coming out of exam hall.

Follow the strategy mentioned and it will surely help you in enhancing your score in Mathematics section.
