GATE 2020 Topper's Interview Ghanendra Singh (AIR 6 EC)

GATE is the biggest exam for every Engineer who is aiming to secure a job in govt. PSU such as IOCL, ONGC, NTPC Exam or pursue higher studies in the most prestigious institutes i.e. IISc, IIT's, NIT etc. Every year over many candidates appear for the GATE exam and strive to fulfil their dreams. This year GATE 2020 was conducted on 2nd Feb and the final result was declared on 13th March in which Ghanendra Singh achieved AIR 6 with in GATE 2020 Electronics & Communication Engineering exam. And Ghanendra by securing AIR 6 became an inspiration for many GATE aspirants. Ghanendra's dream to work in PSU's has turned into reality now.

BYJU'S Exam Prep got in touch with Ghanendra and he shared his journey of being a topper with his dreams and aspirations which were the driving force in the GATE 2020 exam.

Gradeup: Please tell us something about yourself and your motivation to appear for GATE 2020

Ghanendra: 

  • I am an Electronics Engineer and have done my graduation from ZHCET AMU Aligarh and Masters from IIT DELHI.
  • I wanted to work in government sector and Maharatna PSUs such as DRDO , ISRO ,NPCIL, NTPC etc.
  • So by giving GATE I could get a chance to work in such organisations. So this was the motivation for me.

Gradeup: Please share your preparation strategy in detail

Ghanendra:

  • This year my main focus was on questions practicing and test series.
  • I briefly covered the theory of subject and then practice questions on the subjects.
  • I began with signal & system and communication engineering, then EDC & Analog and digital circuits.
  • After this I completed EMFT. In end I completed Network Theory and Control Systems.
  • I did engineering mathematics in the month of January where I only practiced previous year questions

Gradeup: What would you say are the important topics and preparation sources(books/study material etc) to prepare for GATE?

Ghanendra:

  • Right now topics such as DTFT, DFT, FFT are very crucial topics in signal systems.
  • In digital communications questions from topics such as MAP , ML detectors , Matched filters are having so much weightage.
  • Other topics such as MOS Capacitor in EDC are very important

Gradeup: Please brief the challenges you faced during your journey

Ghanendra:

  • The biggest challenge was the time management and planning.
  • The other challenges were how to avoid silly mistakes during the GATE exam.

Gradeup: What are the mistakes that you might have done during your preparation, that you would advise fellow aspirants to avoid?

Ghanendra:

  • Yes I suggest aspirants to focus more on practicing questions specially last 5-6 previous year paper.
  • Never leave any subject.
  • All subjects are important and significant.
  • Give Tests at regular intervals don't skip these.

Gradeup: What was your strategy in the last 1 month before the GATE exam?

Ghanendra:

  • In last month I totally focused on test series and revision.
  • First I used to give full syllabus tests and then analyse the test and then revise accordingly.
