Daily Word Power Series for SSC CGL, CHSL, MTS and All Other SSC Exams: We are re-introducing this Daily Word Power Vocab series for all the SSC exams for the year 2021. As you guys are well aware of the fact that the competition is increasing manifolds year by year in CGL, CHSL, and other likely exams. With this gradual betterment, SSC is experimenting with the exam difficulty level. We have seen this trend in the previous years that SSC is digging deep and testing the knowledge of the aspirants. This trend is especially seen in the English section, to be more specific in the vocabulary section.

Now, it is known to all that vocabulary is a very vast but easy-to-score section because you just need to memorize the words and that's it; no difficult rules, no intriguing exceptions- Nothing! But, we have also seen a lot of new words are asked in the SSC exams, and to counter it we have brought you something effective, and therefore helpful. In this article, we will daily share 8-10 fresh exam-oriented words with their meanings, synonym, antonyms, with an example and a trick to learn the word, so that you never run out of the words and even can make a glossary of your own.

Word: Inimitable (जिसका अनुकरण नहीं किया जा सकता)

  • Pronunciation: ih-nim-i-tuh-buhl/ इनिमटबल 
  • Part of Speech: Adjective
  • Meaning:
    a. very unusual or of very high quality and therefore impossible to copy
  • Synonyms: incomparable, peerless, unparalleled, matchless
  • Antonyms: common, matchable, commonplace
  • Usage in a sentence: He was describing, in his own inimitable way, how to write a best-selling novel
  • Learning Trick: Imitable – which can be imitated or copied, inimitable – which cannot be imitated

Word: Hostile (शत्रुतापूर्ण)

  • Pronunciation: hos-tl/हास्टाइल
  • Part of Speech: Adjective
  • Meaning
    a. of, relating to, or characteristic of an enemy
    b. opposed in feeling, action, or character; antagonistic
    c. characterized by antagonism
    d. not friendly, warm, or generous; not hospitable
  • Synonyms: unfriendly, aggressive, antagonistic
  • Antonyms: friendly, kind, warmhearted
  • Usage in a sentence: The president had a hostile reception in Ohio this morning
  • Learning Trick: In hostel, we are friendly with our friends, think hostile is opposite to hostel. So, hostile will be unfriendly or enemy

Word: Propel (उकसाना)

  • Pronunciation: pruh-pel/प्रपेल
  • Part of Speech: Verb
  • Meaning:
    a. to drive, or cause to move, forward or onward
    b. to impel or urge onward
    c. to cause someone to do an activity or be in a situation
  • Synonyms: drive, push, motivate
  • Antonyms: restrain, hold, discontinue
  • Usage in a sentence: The film propelled him to international stardom
  • Learning Trick: p+rope+l – People use ROPE to move forward on mountains

Word: Ethos (स्वभाव, सदाचार संबंधी)

  • Pronunciation: ee-thos/ईथास
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning:
    a. the set of beliefs, ideas, etc. about the social behaviour and relationships of a person or group
  • Synonyms: spirit, character, ethics
  • Antonyms: dolt, power abuse
  • Usage in a sentence: The ethos of the traditional family firm is being threatened
  • Learning Trick: Ethos = Ethics

Word: Dogma (धर्मसिद्धान्त)

  • Pronunciation: dawg-muh/डॉग्म
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning:
    a. a fixed, especially religious, belief or set of beliefs that people are expected to accept without any doubts
    b. a settled or established opinion, belief, or principle:
  • Synonyms: doctrine, tenet, credo
  • Antonyms: disbelief, ignorance
  • Usage in a sentence: Beliefs have ossified into rigid dogma
  • Learning Trick: Read the capital letter backwards – I AM son of GOD – surely talks about his religion a lot

Word: (Mercurial) (अस्थिर)

  • Pronunciation: mer-kyoo r-ee-uh l/मर्क्युरीअल
  • Part of Speech: Adjective
  • Meaning: subject to sudden or unpredictable changes of mood or mind/animated; lively; sprightly; quick-witted
  • Synonyms: capricious, fickle, unstable
  • Antonyms: consistent, calm, reliable
  • Use in a Sentence: His mercurial and inconstant temperament left him with few friends
  • Learning Trick: Mercury level in the blood pressure testing device fickle a lot when measuring Blood Pressure
