Defence Current Affairs: Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Program

The Government has decided to take forward the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Abhiyan programme, using innovative ways in view of the prevailing conditions of COVID-19.

About 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' programme:

  • The "Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat" programme was launched by PM Narendra Modi on Ekta Diwas (31st October 2015) on the birth anniversary of 'The Iron Man Of India' Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. This programme draws inspiration from the life of India's freedom fighter.
  • The scheme was launched to celebrate the cultural vibrancy of India while establishing a strong mechanism to strengthen the feeling of nationalism and cultural awareness among the citizens of our nation.
  • The primary objective of this programme is to strengthen cultural relations of various regions in the country and to encourage mutual connection between citizens residing in different states of the nation.

Aim of the Programme

  • To commemorate the Unity in Diversity of the nation. It also insists on maintaining and strengthening the fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds between the people.
  • To promote the spirit of national integration by more engagement between States and Union Territories of the country.
  • One of the aims of the programme is to show the rich heritage, customs, traditions and culture of the nation.
  • It also encourages for the creation of an environment which promotes learning between States by sharing their experiences and best practices.
  • All States and UTs will be covered in this programme. There will be a pairing of States and UTs at the national level, and these pairings will be in effect for 1 year, or till the next round of pairings. 

Key Highlights of the recent meeting

  • All webinars of different Ministries will be brought under a common platform of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, and all digital content prepared by different departments will be shared.
  • A series of webinars will be there on various aspects of tourism under the series of "Dekho Apna Desh ", is being hosted on MyGov portal and the recordings of webinars can be displayed on the educational channels and in breaks during online classes.
  • The Ministry of Culture has a proposal to develop E- Heritagepedia and E- Artist pedia and also suggested that renowned artists can have virtual programme modules to teach their art.
