Working of Automatic Guns

Hi Everyone

Today we are going to discuss in detail how automatic guns work ? Isn't it fascinating what we saw in action movies, what is used by our army for defense mechanism is mankind's greatest invention.

An automatic gun is a gun capable of automatically cycling the shooting process, without needing any more manual operation from the user than simply actuating a trigger.

Some examples of automatic weapons include the AK-47 and AR-15 rifles, the UZI submachine guns, and MAC-10 pistols. These firearms are often referred to as "assault weapons," based on their rapid-fire capability.

How does an automatic rifle work?

  •  An Auto rifle or gun operate either by gas created by the ammunition when firing the rifle, or in others it operates by “blow back” or recoil action meaning when the round is fired the recoil forces the bolt back.
  • This is usually slower than gas operated models but works well all the same.
  • An automatic rifle uses a gas system. It operates by gas created by the ammunition when firing the rifle.
  • When a round is fired, gas in the barrel is fed back to the bolt which rocks it back and chambers a new round.
  • That is how most full-auto guns work. Some auto guns are powered by electricity, where the bolt is opened and closed by the gun's battery.byjusexamprep
  • The two primary systems in use are gas-operation, and recoil operation.
  • Recoil operated systems use the recoil energy of the weapon to unlock the bolt from “battery” (locked) and cycle the action.
  • A variation of this is the blowback system which is used universally on low-powered weapons.
  • The mass of the breechblock itself is sufficient to delay opening until pressure drops in most all .22 auto rifles and submachine guns.

Automatic vs semi-automatic

  • “Automatic” guns have two categories – One is a “fully automatic” weapon which is like a machine gun. It fires continues if the ammunition is available, and the trigger is depressed. Around the world, these weapons are likely to only be found on a battlefield.
  • semi-automatic weapon, on the other hand, fires a single shot for each pull of the trigger and the energy of the weapon cycles the action. The operator does not have to manually load ammunition into the firing chamber.

Regulations

  • With the advance of gun technology came the dawn of gun control. Fully automatic machine gun-type weapons have been tightly regulated since Congress passed the National Firearms Act of 1934, largely in response to the growing prevalence of weapons like the Thompson submachine gun, a machine gun with the cartridge of a pistol.
  • Automatic weapons tend to be restricted to military and police organizations in most developed countries that permit the use of semi-automatic firearms.
  • The use of a gun trust to register with the ATF has become an increasingly popular method of acquisition and ownership of automatic firearms.
