General Studies is one of the papers which aspirants find hard to crack and Polity is a very important section of this paper with more than 17 questions asked in the CDS I 2021 exam. Which makes it very important to crack this exam. Here in this article, we will discuss the strategy to prepare polity for the CDS II 2021 exam

1. Start from the Basics-

You should start your preparation with NCERT books. Understand all the chapters in them. These books contain these topics in great detail and explain them at a practical level. You have to understand them with all sincerity. If you lack here then even if you know the entire constitution you will not be able to answer the question asked in the exam.

Tip: For better understanding, just assume that you do not know what is the constitution, the government, or a politician.

2. Make Proper Notes-

There are multiple approaches to be followed for note-making. But the right approach is a must to make effective notes which are easy to understand, update, and effective at the time of revision. Polity is a subject that is a mixture of static and dynamic content both. New laws, amendments, etc are introduced every year which need to be updated on time. The three-column format is one of the best approaches to be followed for note-making.

The three-column format organizes your page into three areas:

  • Key information
  • Your own notes (taken any way you like)
  • A summary.

The right section is for your notes, the left section is for key terms, questions and references, and the lower section is the space where you update your notes in future.

This is a good approach for note-taking as it allows you to take notes how you like (visual, linear, mind-maps etc), encourage you to question, review and think critically, and gives you a usable summary.

Title of the Topic: Preamble of Indian Constitution

  • American constitution first to have Preamble.
  • Objective Resolution- Nehru
  • 42nd Constitution Amendment Act (1976)
  • Keywords of Preamble.
    • Sovereign
    • Socialist
    • Democratic
    • Republic
    • Justice
    • Libert
    • Equality
    • Fraternity

3. Test your knowledge

After completion of every chapter, a serious aspirant must go through the previous year questions asked from that particular topic. By doing this exercise he will be able to analyze where his notes are lacking and can easily update them.

4. Move to more advanced books like Laxmikant:

After completing NCERT students feel that he/she must move to an advanced source. M Laxmikant is one of the best books available in the market to prepare polity and understand the Constitution. Add to this whatever you have learned from the NCERT book. This may be difficult initially but will get easier.

5. Attempt Mock Tests:

You can start with small tests of 20 - 30 questions and then move to full mock tests. These tests will help you to analyze your weak areas and provide you with the opportunity to improve your marks.

Friends, obviously this will take time. But this kind of preparation will be solid and put you in the category of a high-scorer. Do not forget that you will reap the gains even during the interview because many questions asked during an interview are on politics, especially those related to current affairs.
