8.Direction: Answer the following questions by selecting the correct/most appropriate options.
Anita prepared a fresh solution of sodium hydroxide in a test tube. She dropped a small piece of aluminium foil into it and then brought a burning matchstick near the mouth of the test tube. She hears a pop sound. The pop sound indicates the presence of:

A. Water gas
B. Oxygen gas
C. Hydrogen gas
D. Aluminum gas

10.Consider the following statement:

i. Questions that are asked by teachers to stimulate learner’s thinking, observation and reflection towards provided material or demonstration are called factual questions.

ii. Examples of factual questions: Why paper boat floats and paper sinks? Why the sun always rises from east? Why every object dropped from a certain height fall towards earth.

Which of the above questions is/are correct?

A. Only i.
B. Only ii.
C. Both i and ii.
D. Neither I nor ii.

ANSWERS

1. Ans. A. The organisms which we cannot see through our naked eyes are known as Microorganisms. These are classified into four major groups i.e. Bacteria, fungi, protozoa, algae.

 2. Ans. A. The blood is the chief circulatory fluid in the human body. It contains an iron-containing red pigment known as haemoglobin. It is proteinaceous in nature and contains iron as an important nutrient to maintain its structure that helps in the transportation of oxygen in the human body.

3. Ans. D. Urobilin or urochrome is the chemical primarily responsible for the yellow colour of urine. It is a linear tetrapyrrole compound that, along with the related compound urobilinogen, are degradation products of the cyclic tetrapyrrole heme.

4. Ans. C. The process of transferring charge from a charged object to the earth is called earthing. Earthing is provided in buildings to protect us from electrical shocks due to any leakage of electrical current.

 5. Ans. A. The smallest particle of an element or a compound, which is capable of independent existence is known as a molecule. Molecules can be formed from atoms of same or different elements. A molecule shows all the properties of the element or compounds it is made of.

6. Ans. C.Atoms are very small in size. Therefore, the atomic radius is usually measured in nanometers. This makes reading or learning sizes of atoms easier. One nanometer is equal to 10-9m.

7. Ans. A.  If the two forces act in opposite directions on an object, the net force acting on it is the difference between the two forces.

 8. Ans. C.

When a small piece of aluminium foil is dropped in the sodium hydroxide solution, a chemical reaction takes place in which precipitate of sodium aluminate and hydrogen gas evolved from test tube and then brought a burning matchstick near the mouth of the test tube hear a pop sound. The pop sound indicates the presences of hydrogen gas.

9. Ans. B. Year 2003 was observed as the international year of freshwater to make people aware of this dwindling natural resource.

10. Ans. D. Questions that are asked by teachers to stimulate learner’s thinking, observation and reflection towards provided material or demonstration are called stimulative questions. Examples of stimulative questions: Why paper boat floats and paper sinks? Why the sun always rises from the east? Why every object dropped from a certain height fall towards the earth.
