By Nitin Singhal|Updated : February 18th, 2021

In State examinations, we have seen different trends, especially in the English section. It is one of the major subjects where many changes have been observed. In this article, we will be helping out with the different variations in the topic "Fillers/Fill in the Blanks" so that you get to know all the types of fillers which can be asked in the upcoming State exams.

At first, read the steps and ways to solve this topic.

STEP 1: Read the given statement carefully and try filling the missing word without the help of the options given.

STEP 2: Now match/replace the word with the one which you have thought of initially.

STEP 3: Read the sentence again by filling the blank with the word that you have picked/chosen.

NOTE: Ensure that the word you have picked, must go with the sentence smoothly and correctly.

STEP 4: Read the sentence one last time to ensure no grammatical errors in the sentence by filling the blank. Also, check if the sentence after filling up the blank is making some sense or not.

Points to Remember while solving Filler Questions

1. Questions on ‘fill in the blank’ are frequently asked in all banking exams. To be able to solve such questions correctly, you must have a very good command over vocabulary.

2. It is very important to read the sentence in a question carefully. In most of the cases, you will find a relevant clue to identify the correct answer. For instance, the grammatical structure of the sentence will determine the grammatical structure of the word/ phrase to be put in the blank. In a vocabulary-based Fillers, the context will facilitate the elimination of the irrelevant options and the selection of the correct one.

3. You should keep a close watch at grammar rules, for instance, if the article, “an” comes before the blank, then it implies that the answer must begin with a vowel. Such grammatical rules can be of great help in deciding the answers.

4. It is necessary to understand the context of the sentence. While reading the sentence and the options given in the question, you must try to determine the tone of the missing word — whether the required word is positive or negative in the meaning it implies.

6. In double fillers, you should use the method of elimination by simultaneously checking which of the options best satisfies both the entries.

7. In certain questions, your knowledge and understanding of Common idioms and phrases in the English Language may be tested. Hence, be sure to have a good skill set of such phrases.

8. Ensure that the meaning of the sentence is intact. Once you have placed the likely option, do check that the sentence gives out a plausible meaning.

9. In case you are confused between two or more options, you can also apply the hit & trial method – one by one place each of the likely options in place of the missing word in the sentence. The option which credits maximum meaning to the sentence should be the correct answer.

10. Do not spend a lot of time on one question. If you are unable to spot the correct answer, despite repeated efforts, leave the question and move forward.

Now, go through all types of Fillers questions. It covers each and every pattern which has asked in the banking exams till now.

Out of the given words, the only harmony suits the best as “Vexation” means annoyance, “exasperation” means irritation, “Aggravation” means worsen and “Astonishment” means a surprise.
The second blank should contain a word that means real or authentic because the sentence states that one should not be angry or competitive, but truly happy while living in a community. “Genuine” fits correctly out of the given options as “counterfeit” and “hoax” means something which is fake.
The third blank should contain a word that means satisfaction or fulfillment because the sentence talks about happiness that one can get from being satisfied. “Contentment” has a similar meaning, while no other words fit correctly.

Solution:

“Out against” and “calling him” shows that the first blank should have a word which means to strike out verbally.
“Who lied to have a damaging dossier” and “a dishonest” shows that the second blank should have a word which is in a negative tone.
Option A: Strike is a wrong use of the verb. Therefore, this option can’t be used.
Option B: Rebuked is to express sharp disapproval or criticism of someone because of their behaviour or actions. “Rebuked” does not fit in the second sentence.
Option C: “Attacked” does not fit in with the context of both the sentences.

D. b-d
E. d-c

Ans. E.

Solution: Since ‘get’ is a verb that is being described here, we need an adverb. ‘Very’ cannot be used here despite being an adverb, because it is used to put emphasis in the superlative degree of an adjective. Since there is no such adjective here, we wouldn’t use it. ‘Much’ is used to describe uncountable nouns, which is not present in the given situation. Both ‘merely’ and ‘solely’ can be correctly used as they are adverbs. Hence, the correct answer is E.
