Handle Emotions During SSC Exams Preparation: Many SSC and other exam aspirants are overheard saying things like, Competitive Exam prep is a way of life; while this may sound like a movie line, it is real to some extent. With a lengthy syllabus spanning several topics, tough work schedules, and an unprecedented time crunch, the SSC Exam preparation presents aspirants with a number of challenges that become a part of their daily lives.

None of the aforementioned difficulties, though, compared to the mental stress that SSC Exams aspirants go through as part of their preparation journey.

Effects of Emotions on SSC Aspirants in Different Situations During the Preparation

Emotions, beyond their importance, play a significant role in the journey of a candidate, from being an ordinary aspirant to a selected candidate. Negative feelings, on the other hand, also serve as a demotivating force for SSC Exams applicants, leading to undue distress and tension, which impedes the preparation during the whole selection process.

Situations that an SSC aspirant has to Face During SSC Preparation

  • Increasing competition in the SSC Exams: Every year number of candidates increases rapidly who apply for the exams like SSC CGL, CHSL, CPO, etc.
  • Peer Pressure: There is no fixed time of getting selection in the SSC exams, one can crack the exam in 1 go while others crack it in the fifth time too. In this period, when aspirants see their friends already settled in their life with a job and everything, they lose hope and leave the preparation in between.
One more thing is preparation needs dedication and a kind of lifestyle which is distraction-free. While their friends are out enjoying, celebrating, attending functions, aspirants have to study in their room. This situation creates pressure of a different kind.
  • Family and societal Pressure: This factor affects the mental peace of an aspirant a lot as people keep on asking questions about preparation and not getting selection. Then there are relatives and family members who want their kids to get the job as soon as possible and fulfill their responsibilities towards the family.
In the case of women, they are pressurised to get married at a young age after completing graduation.
  • Financial Instability: As the preparation phase can be long for some candidates, they often face financial problems in continuing the preparation. Although some continue the preparation along with the job while others struggle to manage the time between the Job and Preparation.
  • Self Doubt: When a candidate does not get selected after putting in so much effort and study for hours for a whole year, they doubt their capabilities and lose confidence.
  • Delay and postponement of the Notification, Exams, Results: The selection process of most of the SSC exams takes almost 1 year for completion and it takes 1 more year to get the joining date. On top of that when the exam gets delayed, it often discouraged to prepare for the exams.

During the SSC preparation process, aspirants face challenges from a personal, peer, parental, and societal perspective when it comes to emotions. The burden on SSC aspirants comes from a lack of understanding among family and societal participants about the candidate’s ambitions and expectations. As a result, aspirants are constantly compared to their peers in the same age group who have already developed a fruitful and healthy career.

Doubts about a candidate’s personal ability, potential, and aptitude can also wreak havoc on the morale of candidates preparing for the SSC exams. No amount of studying will compensate for the lack of self-confidence needed to pass the SSC Exams.

Tips To Handle Emotions During SSC Exam Preparation

As previously mentioned, emotions play a critical role in an aspirant’s performance. So, here, we are sharing effective tips to handle emotions during SSC Preparation. These tips will help you, use your emotions in a positive way.

Be Patient – Apna Time Ayega (Our chance will come)

SSC Exam preparation is not a one-time event; it is a long-term procedure that must be approached as a way of life. In other words, it’s a method that necessitates your undivided attention as well as a great deal of patience. In order to prepare for the SSC Exams, you must be patient in all aspects of your life.

Whether you are preparing any particular subject or topic you’re not familiar with or not good at it, sticking to a strict and exhausting everyday routine, or studying for lengthy periods of time without taking a break, SSC preparation necessitates discipline on all levels.

Aside from that, applicants must be patient when it comes to achieving their end goals or Selection. Many aspirants will pass SSC Exam on their first try, although you, through your best efforts, will not be able to do so either on your second or third attempt. In such situations, you must be patient and continue to strive for your dreams, vowing to be stronger than your previous self.

Self Belief and Confidence

The two things that will hold you on the road to success are self-belief and self-confidence. The overwhelming burden of competitive exam preparation, along with pressure from society and families, causes many aspirants to second-guess their decision to pursue a career in government jobs. Aspirants would be motivated to continue their preparation if they believe in their goal of clearing the SSC Exams and the reasons for it. So keep reminding yourself of the reason why you want to clear the SSC exams.

Surround Yourself with Positive People

It is unavoidable that you will encounter negative people who, through their negative emotions, opinions, and power, will sap your inspiration. They’ll make an effort to cast doubt on your ability. Never pay attention to their influence and make an effort to avoid derogatory people. Whenever possible, strive to associate yourself with positivity and others who are optimistic.

Remember 5 By 5 Rule: The 5×5 rule says that when confronted with an issue, consider whether it would matter in 5 years. If it doesn’t, don’t worry about it for longer than 5 minutes. The 5×5 theory is a helpful one to note when your issues need to be put into context.

Enjoy the Journey rather than Destination

Many qualified candidates who have passed SSC exams have spoken about how the preparation phase was the best foundation course they could have wished for. Candidates can learn a lot of life skills in the preparation phase which helps them improve their lifestyle and aptitude.

Choose the Matter that Needs your Attention

As an aspirant, you need to carefully choose the matter that needs your attention. Whether the issue is personal or anything else. You cannot afford to react to each and everything. Sometimes, that issue or problem is not that big, but we tend to give our attention and time and lose our mental peace and precious time.
Remember, you have limited time of 24 hours a day in which most hours should be invested in studies. To study for long hours and with full attention, your mind needs to be attentive and not occupied with some other problem, otherwise, it would affect studies.

Before giving your energy and attention to something, check for the following factors:

  • Is the matter really important?
  • Can it be solved on its own?
  • Can you something about it to solve it?
  • Can you afford to give that much time out of your day hours?

If all the matter passes all the above filters then only attend the matter, rather than leave it. (This is one philosophy that I follow myself religiously.)

Regular Exercise and Meditation

It has been proven that exercising decreases the hormones that cause negative emotions and enhances the hormones that cause positive emotions, so make time for it.
Meditation is another effective method for reducing tension and has been proved since the dawn of time.

Healthy Food Habits and Sufficient Sleep

Maintain a healthy eating routine, stop fast food, and eat more salads and fruits.
Without enough sleep, it is impossible to recover from emotional exhaustion caused by long days of hard work. As a result, make sure you get enough sleep on a daily basis during the preparation journey.
