Question 1

Direction: The questions in this section are based on the reasoning contained in brief statements or passages. For some questions, more than one of the choices could conceivably answer the question However, you are to choose the best answer; that is, the response that most accurately and completely answers the question. You should not make assumptions that are by common sense standards implausible, superfluous, or incompatible with the passage. After you have chosen the best answer, blacken the corresponding space on your answer sheet.

The effort involved in countering a scary situation produces adrenaline accompanied by an acceleration of the heartbeat. Since the body produces adrenaline to counter fear, a machine that can detect the amount of adrenaline produced can be an effective way of determining how scared someone is.

Which one of the following statements, if true, most seriously weakens the argument?
I. Measurement of adrenaline means measuring its every component which is not possible by the machines available today and manually the amount of time required to do the same is too much for the effect to sustain.
II. People are often unaware that their body is producing adrenaline as a response to counter the fear they experience in a scary situation.
III.
The body does not necessarily produce enough adrenaline in situations invoking fear as compared to the amount it does in other stressful situations.
IV. For people who are not actually scared, the stress of being tested by machines can produce release adrenaline identical in amounts similar to that in situations where one is scared.
V. The use of a machine involves testing various components of adrenaline and reporting the exact amount of each component produced, which when matched with expected levels provide information about the amount of fear that can be handled by a person.

Question 2

Direction: The question given below consists of a statement, followed by three arguments numbered I, II and III. You have to decide which of the arguments is/are ‘strong’ arguments and which is/are ‘weak’ arguments and accordingly choose your answer from the alternatives given below each question.
Statement:
State-run Energy Efficiency Services (EESL) has scrapped its second tender for procurement of 10,000 electric cars as the industry awaits clarification on specifications for chargers which will allow higher-end, luxury automakers to come into the picture. This tender was floated in April and had been on hold after a preliminary pre-bid meeting. A similar tender was floated in August last year, and the rollout of 10,000 cars under the tender was expected to be complete by March 2019.

Why is EEL scraping the tender for procurement of 10,000 electric cars?

Arguments:
I. The share of luxury cars could go further up since it would be a good way of aggregating demand, Kumar said. This, however, strictly depends on the final order from DST.
II. Interestingly, the tender had set aside 20% share of the total order for higher-end and upgraded sedans category, which would allow foreign automakers like Nissan, Hyundai, Kia Motors to drive away with a fair share of the tender.
III. EESL said that the company has been awaiting clarification from the Department of Science & Technology (DST) to issue the standard norms for charging stations because of which the tender was first put on hold and now has been scrapped entirely.

Question 3

The question given below consists of a statement, followed by three arguments numbered I, II and III. You have to decide which of the arguments is/are ‘strong’ arguments and which is/are ‘weak’ arguments and accordingly choose your answer from the alternatives given below each question.
Statement: The government’s mega health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat — National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM) may cost the exchequer around Rs 5,000 crore this year because of the time taken to rollout the scheme. The scheme will cost Rs 10,000 crore when its rolled out across India next year. While this year there will be 8 crore beneficiaries, the target is to cover 10 crore by FY 20.
Which among the following arguments support the above statement in the best possible manner
?

Arguments:
I. The government also sees a limited role for private sector insurers in AB-NHPM and the first preference will be given to implementation by the states in assurance mode.
II. The other options are insurance mode or a combination mixed mode. Assurance mode covers the entire gamut of health protection from sanitation and prevention to care during an illness. Insurance mode, usually, only covers expenses related to hospitalisation.
III. States will find it difficult to operate in a trust mode as the state government will rely on third party administrators, which will have no accountability to prevent frauds or stop leakages.
