Important Questions of DFCCIL Numerical Ability Section

Here are some questions of Numerical Ability along with its correct answers and detailed solutions from the PDF:

1. Walking at 3 km per hour, Pintu reaches his school 5 minutes late. If he walks at 4 km per hour he will be 5minutes early. The distance of Pintu’s school from his house is

  1. B. 2 km
    C.
    D. 5 km

Answer ||| B

Solution ||| Distance of the school from the house

  1. B. 2 किमी

    C.

    D. 5किमी

Answer ||| B

Solution |||

2. There is an 80% increase in an amount in 4 years at simple interest. What will be the compound interest on Rs. 5000 after 3 years at the same rate of interest?

  1. Rs. 3660
    B. Rs. 3640.40
    C. Rs. 3640
    D. Rs. 3656.25

Answer ||| C

Solution |||

Let the principal sum be P unit.

Simple interest for 4 years = 80% of P =

We know that,

R = 100/5 = 20% p.a.

Now, we have to find compound interest on Rs. 5000 after 3 years at 20% rate of interest per annum.

A = Rs. 8640

Hence, Compound Interest = A – P = 8640 – 5000 = Rs. 3640

    B. 3640.40 रुपये
    C. 3640 रुपये
    D. 3656.25 रुपये

Answer ||| C

Solution |||

R = 100/5 = 20% वार्षिक

A = 8640 रुपये

3. A train is moving at a speed of 108 km/h. If the length of the train is 280 meters, then how long will it take to cross the platform 485 meters long?

  1. 48.5 sec
    B. 25.5 sec
    C. 29.5 sec
    D. 27.5 sec

Answer ||| B

Solution |||

Given, the speed of the train = 108 km/h =  m/s = 30 m/sec.

Total distance to be covered = Length of the train + Length of the platform = 280 + 485 = 765 m

Therefore, the time taken by the train to cross the platform =  = 25.5 sec.

    B. 25.5 सेकंड
    C. 29.5 सेकंड
    D. 27.5 सेकंड

Answer ||| B

Solution |||

4. The monthly incomes of A and B are in the ratio 4 : 7 and the ratio of their savings is 4 : 5. If the income of B is equal to four times the savings of A, then what is the ratio of the expenditures of A and B?

  1. 36 : 77
    B. 4 : 9
    C. 2 : 1
    D. 35 : 76

Answer ||| A

Solution |||

Let the income of B be 28x.

Then, the income of A =  = 16x and

Now, the savings of A =  = 7x

The savings of B =  =

So, the ratio of expenditures of A and B = (16x – 7x) : (28x – (35x/4))

= 9x : 77x/4

= 36 : 77

  1. 36 : 77
    B. 4 : 9
    C. 2 : 1
    D. 35 : 76

Answer ||| A

Solution |||

तो, A की आय =  = 16x and

= 9x : 77x/4

= 36 : 77

5. A person gets ₹27 more by selling an article at a profit of 6.5% than selling it at a loss of 7%. The cost price of the article is.

  1. ₹200
    B. ₹300
    C. ₹150
    D. ₹250

Answer ||| A

Solution |||

Let the cost price of the article be ₹100x.

Then, selling price in case of 6.5% profit = (100x) + 6.5% = 106.5x

And selling price in case of 7% loss = (100x) – 7% = 93x

Difference between both selling prices = ₹27

106.5x – 93x = 27

13.5x = 27

x =  = 2

Therefore, cost price of article = 2 × 100 = ₹200

  1. ₹200
    B. ₹300
    C. ₹150
    D. ₹250

Answer ||| A

Solution |||

106.5x – 93x = 27

13.5x = 27

x =  = 2
