As you all know, India became an independent country in 1947 and Jawahar Lal Nehru was the first elected Prime Minister (PM) of India. So far, Jawahar Lal Nehru has been the longest-serving PM, while Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the PM who served for the shortest duration.

  • He also promoted the White Revolution in India.

Indira Gandhi

  • First lady Prime Minister of India
  • She was named the Women of the Millennium and is the first lady to receive Bharat Ratna.

Morarji Desai

(1896–1995)

  • He was the Oldest to become PM at 81 and first PM who resigned without completing his office tenure.
  • Also, he formally ended the state of emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi.
  • Moreover, he is the only Indian Prime Minister who got Nishaan-e-Pakistan (Pakistan’s highest civilian award)

Charan Singh

  • Only PM who did not face the Parliament.
  • He removed the Zamindari System and brought Land Reform Acts in India.

Indira Gandhi

  • She also got Bangladesh Swadhinata Samman. She is the world’s longest-serving PM.
