‘Customized Crash Course’ Programme for COVID 19 Frontline workers

Why in the News?

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the six ‘Customized Crash Course’ programme for COVID 19 Frontline workers under the Skill India Scheme.
  • The training programme would be conducted in 111 training centres spread over 26 states.
  • About one lakh frontline workers will be trained in this initiative.

About the course:

  • The training will be imparted to COVID warriors in six customised job roles namely Home Care Support, Basic Care Support, Advanced Care Support, Emergency Care Support, Sample Collection Support, and Medical Equipment Support.
  • The course programme is designed as a special programme under the Central Component of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 3.0, with a financial outlay of ₹276 crore.
  • The course programme will create skilled non-medical healthcare workers to fill the present and future needs of manpower in the health sector.

About Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana:

  • The 1st version of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) was launched in 2015 to encourage and promote skill development by providing free short duration skill training.
  • Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 2.0 (2016-20) was launched by scaling up sectors, geographies and by greater alignment with other missions/programs of the Government of India such as Digital India, Make in India and Swachh Bharat Mission.
  • PMKVY 3.0 shall be implemented in two phases: 1st phase shall be implemented on pilot basis during the year 2020- 21 known as PMKVY 3.0 (2020-21).
  • The scheme shall initiate the creation of an implementation framework for the 2nd phase (2021-2026).

Union Cabinet approves Inland Vessels Bill 2021

Why in the News?

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the Inland Vessels Bill 2021 which looks at streamlining vessels running on inland waterways in the country.
  • Inland Vessels Bill 2021 will replacethe Inland Vessels Act
  • The Bill willregulate safety and registration of inland vessels.

About Inland Vessel Bill 2021:

  • The Inland Vessel Bill, 2021 will act as a unified law for the country in place of separate rules framed by the States.
  • It will aid in providing a central database for keeping records of vessel registration, crew, and details of vessels.
  • The bill will create pollution control measures for Inland Vessels.
  • It expands the scope of ‘inland water’ by including national waterways.

Inland Water Transport (IWT) in India:

  • As of now, 4,000 km of inland waterways are operational in the country.
  • There are about 14,500 km of navigable waterways including rivers, backwaters, canals, creeks, etc, in the country.
  • 111 waterways have been declared as National Waterways as per the National Waterways Act, 2016.
  • The Inland Water Transport in the country is a fuel-efficient and environment-friendly mode of moving around 55 million tonnes of cargo.
  • The National Waterway 1 (NW-1): Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly River System (Prayagraj-Haldia) with length 1620 km is the longest National Waterway in India.

Global Peace Index 2021: India ranked 135

Why in the News?

  • According to the 15th edition of Global Peace Index 2021, India has been ranked 135 out 163 countries which specifies ‘Low State of Peace’

  • Out of the 10 most peaceful countries in the world, 8 are from Europe.
  • Afghanistan is the world’s least peaceful country for the 4th consecutive year.
  • The report points out that the average level of global peacefulness declined by 0.07 percent marking the 9th deterioration in the last thirteen years.

About the Global Peace Index 2021:

  • This is the 15th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI), which ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness.
  • Produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), the GPI is the world’s leading measure of global peacefulness.
  • The GPI covers 99.7 percent of the world’s population, using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators from highly respected sources, and measures the state of peace across three domains: the level of Societal Safety and Security, the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict, and the degree of Militarisation.

Prime Minister launches M-Yoga App on 7th International Day of Yoga 2021

Why in the News?

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘WHO M-Yoga’ App on the occasion of 7th International Day of Yoga.
  • The Prime Minister said the M-Yoga App will help in our 'One World, One Health' motto.

About M-Yoga App:

  • The App will provide videos of Yoga training and practice based on common Yoga protocol in many languages.
  • This mobile app will be immensely helpful in the promotion of Yoga and wellness among people around the world, especially during the ongoing pandemic.

Background:

  • The Ministry of AYUSH and the World Health Organization (WHO)had jointly undertaken a project in mid-2019, focusing on Mobile-Yoga. 
  • It envisaged the concept of the ‘Be Healthy, Be Mobile’ under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
  • Be Healthy, Be Mobile (BHBM) initiative is a global partnership led by WHO which supports the scale up of mobile health (m-Health) technology within the scope of the National Health system to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Bihar Chief Minister launches two new schemes to promote entrepreneurship among youth and women

Why in the News?

  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched two new schemes- the 'Mukhya Mantri Yuva Udyaymi Yojna' (MYUY) and the 'Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyami Yojna' (MMUY) to promote entrepreneurship among youth and women of all sections under the state's 'Mukhaya Mantri Udyami Yojna'

‘Mukhya Mantri Udyami Yojna' was started in 2018 and is limited to the members of SC, ST and the extremely backward classes (EBCs).

About 'Mukhya Mantri Yuva Udyaymi Yojna' (MYUY):

  • Under the MYUY, an unemployed youth would be provided a sum of Rs 10 lakh to start a new enterprise or industry. Of the total Rs 10 lakh, Rs 5 lakh would be the subsidy amount which the youth need not to return, the rest Rs 5 lakh would be a loan on simple interest of 1%, to be returned in many installments.

About 'Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyami Yojna' (MMUY):

  • Under the MMUY, an unemployed woman would be provided a sum of Rs 10 lakh to start a new business or small industry.
  • Rs 10 lakh, Rs 5 lakh would be a subsidy amount which the woman doesn't need to return, while the rest Rs 5 lakh would be an interest-free loan, to be returned in many installments.

NTPC among top 50 at ‘Great Place to Work’ in India

Why in News

  • NTPC, a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power has been recognised as a Great Place to Work for the 15th year in a row by the Great Place to Work (GPTW)
  • NTPC is the only PSU to consistently feature in India’s Top 50 Best Workplaces.
  • This year NTPC ranked 38th, up from 47th position last year.
