SSB is the most crucial element of the selection process for the exam. Candidates are interviewed by a high-ranking officer in this method. The average interview lasts roughly 45 minutes to an hour. During this interview, the officer asks the candidates a variety of questions ranging from general knowledge to personal information. Throughout the process, one must remain confident and sincere.

There are various things that a candidate should be careful about when it comes to the SSB interview process. Candidates make a variety of mistakes that you should avoid. We are mentioning the common mistakes below which will help you prepare better for the SSB interview process.

11 Common Mistakes to Avoid in SSB Interview

1. Follow instructions properly

  • Whether a candidate is called for SSB for any entry, they are always given a set of instructions outlining the entire SSB process.
  • Candidates may make a variety of errors if they do not read the instructions carefully.
  • The first is by failing to arrange necessary papers, which may have resulted in their return home on the first day itself.
  • The second issue is that many applicants, both freshmen, and repeaters, do not have adequate attire with them and must rely on others.

2. Avoid cutting in the PIQ & use good handwriting

  • As we all know, after students are screened, they are given a PIQ form to fill out. That PIQ form is thought to be an important element of SSB because it is stated that each assessor receives one before we meet with them.
  • As a result, those PIQ forms create a mental image of candidates in their heads.

3. Role of Communication Skills in SSB interview

  • You should try to communicate in English. You must be able to speak English fluently and your voice must always be audible.
  • Your tone and demeanor should be appropriate, and your tone should never be demeaning. Avoid using a foreign or phony accent.

4. Body Posture in SSB interview

  • Don’t gaze in the direction of the door. You may shake hands with the officer; give him a firm and cheerful handshake.
  • Sit in the chair with your palms on your thighs and your back straight. Don’t be lethargic or bend backward or forwards.
  • Maintain a constant smile on your face, don’t exhibit any signs of nervousness, and remain calm and composed.

5. Be Sincere

  • This is the most crucial aspect. Always be truthful in your responses to the officer. People try to deceive the officer by claiming to be active in a variety of activities such as taking tuition or participating in sports.
  • When you’re asked about your daily routine, don’t mention unnecessary things or don’t exaggerate. So, don’t pretend to be someone you aren’t, and answer the questions honestly and confidently.
  • At all times, avoid using bookish jargon or utopian ideals. Be practical in your approach.

6. Your dressing sense

  • This process necessitates the use of formal attire. Jeans and t-shirts with a loose fit should be avoided.
  • Formal Pants and shirts should be chosen over casual pants and shirts. Avoid wearing low-waisted jeans and other casual attire.
  • Wear outfits that reflect your strong side rather than ones that show off your ‘cool’ side, professionally enter the interviewing room.

7. Nervousness

  • Stay cool in all situations and avoid being nervous. The officer wants to examine how calmly you respond to his/her questions and how composed you are during your personal interview.
  • Do not cry or break down in front of the officer. Do not be afraid to speak up.

8. Know Yourself

  • There are numerous inquiries regarding your personal life as well as the lives of those around you.
  • Learn about your parents’ and siblings’ occupations. You should not disparage your parents’ occupation.
  • When questioned about his father’s occupation, answer the questions honestly. Do not try to provide fake information.

9. Excessive Talkativeness

  • Avoid being overly talkative. Only respond to the questions asked by the interviewing officer.
  • Instead of telling your entire tale in each inquiry, be concise and to the point.
  • People have been overly cordial with the officer, asking him questions about his military career and how he was selected, among other things. Avoid asking such questions and acting in such a manner.

10. Stop Mugging Things

  • Another common mistake made by applicants is to try to memorize the words, sentences, and tales for the Psychology Exam.
  • Furthermore, mucking things up in the SSB gets no one anywhere, and candidates’ responses should be tailored to the situation in which they are sitting and try to develop their phrases rather than repeating someone else’s.

11. Art of Lying

  • One of the most typical phrases I’ve heard from candidates after they leave the interview room is, Interviewer ko kya pagal banaya maja aa gya, but they forget that the person taking his interview is a professional.
  • The core idea here is that there are very few chances for a candidate to get out of an interview by lying to the officer.
  • As a result, you must be upbeat and honest with the interviewer. There may be some things you don’t want to tell the interviewer, but lying gives the wrong image of your nature.

Conclusion

Success is never handed to you or happens by coincidence; it is entirely dependent on your efforts, devotion, hard work, determination, and a slew of other uncontrollable elements. Examine the aspect of human personality that is most responsible for rejection, mark it, and begin working on it. No matter how tough the selection pattern is, SSB selection will come to you.
