What will be the major changes in CTET 2021?

In this article, we will read all the information related to the major changes made in Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). Teacher Eligibility Tests (TETs) will be strengthened to inculcate better test material, both in terms of content and pedagogy. This article is to understand all the major changes that are shared with candidates in the latest notice released on 30 July. We will also understand the upcoming exam pattern for CTET, types of questions and exam pattern, so read on!

 

CTET Overview:

CTET stands for Central Teacher Eligibility Test. It is conducted to provides eligibility to the primary and secondary teachers. Based on scores obtains in it candidates can apply in private and public sectors jobs. CTET conducts two papers - Paper 1 & 2.

  • Paper 1 - Candidates who tend to be Primary Teachers (Class 1 to 5).
  • Paper 2 - Candidates who tend to be Secondary Teachers (Class 6 to 10).

CTET being the minimum qualification required to become a teacher is essential for every teaching aspirant. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) announced this on 23 August 2010 and 29 DECEMBER, 2011 and laid down the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher for class I to VIII.

Why was TET made the minimum qualification for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher is explained below:

  • It would bring national standards and benchmark of teacher quality in the recruitment process;
  • It would induce teacher education institutions and students from these institutions to further improve their performance standards;
  • It would send a positive signal to all stakeholders that the Government lays special emphasis on teacher quality

The Ministry of Education, Govt. of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi.

What are the major changes in CTET 2021?

  • Mode of Examination:
    From now onwards the CTET examination will be conducted in an online mode for the session (December 2021/January 2022).

  • Syllabus for CTET 2021-22:
    The syllabus remains the same but the focus will be on assessing candidates' understanding of teaching the subject, their pedagogic content knowledge, their
    knowledge relevance of the subject in the school curriculum, and other dimensions of teaching the subject such as pedagogic content knowledge that includes questions assessing planning of teaching-learning experiences, strategies for developing conceptual clarity, usage of teaching-learning aids, and assessment methodologies specific to the concept.

  • The Exam Pattern for CTET 2021-22:
    The structure of the question paper remains the same but question papers will be developed to assess less factual knowledge and more conceptual understanding, application, problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking.

  • Question Papers for CTET 2021-22:
    The candidates who are confused about the nature of upcoming CTET and what type of questions will be asked. For this CBSE will send a set of mock questions and will also arrange centers in different centers (Free of Cost).

  • “CTET” means “Central Teacher Eligibility Test”.

    It is a “Qualifying Examination” means “Examination on the result of which the candidate becomes eligible to apply for Central Teacher Eligibility Test.

  • There will be two papers of CTET.

    (i) Paper I will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes I to V.

    (ii) Paper II will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII.

    • All questions in CTET will be in Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) forms, with four alternatives out of which one answer will be most appropriate.
    • Each question will be of one mark and
    • There will be no negative marking.
