The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Assistant Commandant (AC) Exam has released the notification for the recruitment of Assistant Commandants. Assistant Commandant General Duty (Male), Assistant Commandant General Duty (SSA, Women), Assistant Commandant Commercial Pilot License (CPL) (SSA) for both Male and Female, Assistant Commandant (Engineering and Electrical) (Male), Assistant Commandant (Law) for both Male & Female.

  • The first Stage consists of a screening test, which is conducted online. 
  • Except for Law entry applicants and Departmental Promotion (DP) entry applicants, the screening test is held for GD/PN/CPL/Technical (Mechanical/Electrical & Electronics) positions.
Stage II exam June 2022
  • Applicants are shortlisted for Stage-II (PSB) based on their performance in Stage-I. 
  • The examination consists of two parts: the Computerized Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT) and the Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP&DT).
Stage III exam July to Oct. 2022
  • This Stage is only for Stage II exam qualified applicants. 
  • The examination consists of a psychological test, a group task, and an interview (Personality test).
Stage IV July to Dec. 2022

Aspirants who pass Stage III must undergo a special medical examination at Base Hospital in New Delhi.

Stage V End of Dec. 2022
  • Applicants who pass Stage IV and are on the All India Merit List will be provisionally selected for the training and must report to INA Ezhimala for the Naval Orientation Course (NOC). 
  • The All India Merit List will be compiled using the combined scores from Stages I & III.

Commercial Pilot CPL SSA

Candidates must have a Class 12 or equivalent qualification in Physics and Mathematics, with a minimum of 55% in each subject. Applicants who have completed the diploma are also eligible; they must have a combined score of 55% in Physics and Mathematics. They must have a current commercial pilot licence that has been issued/validated by the Director-General of Civil Aviation.

Applicants must have been born between 1st July 1998 to 30th June 2004.

Technical Mechanical

Candidates must hold an Engineering degree from a recognised university in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial & Production Engineering, Metallurgy, Design, Aeronautical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.

Applicants must have been born between 1st July 1998 to 30th June 2002.

Technical Electrical/Electronics

Applicants must have a 60 percent grade point average in Electrical or Electronics or Telecommunications or Instrumentation or Instrumentation & Control or Electronics and Communication or Power Engineering or Power Electronics.

Law Entry

Candidates must have a law degree from a recognised university.

The following are a few key points regarding the eligibility criteria:

  • Only candidates who have completed their final year of study are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates should not have a history of incarceration or prosecution.
  • Candidates from the reserved category will have their ages relaxed in accordance with government regulations.
  • Candidates who have not yet completed their law degrees are not eligible to apply. In such cases, the application will be rejected.
  • SC/ST applicants, NCC ‘C’ (A grade) holders, National level sportsperson (Inter State & above), and wards of Coast Guard uniform personnel who died while in service will receive a maximum of 5% relaxation in aggregate in the total marks obtained in degree. This particular relaxation rule does not apply to the Class 12.

Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Selection Process

The written exam for Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant (AC) will be conducted for the first time. The following is an explanation of the Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant selection process:

Stage I (includes Screening Test): 

  • All registered candidates must take the screening test. 
  • The exam consists of MCQ pattern questions with a maximum score of 400. 
  • There are a total of 100 questions. 
  • The examination lasts two hours. 
  • The all-India category-wise merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in Stage-I (Screening Test) of the CGCAT examination.

Stage II (includes PSB): 

  • This Stage is only for Stage I exam shortlisted candidates. 
  • The examination consists of two parts: the Computerised Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT) and the Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PPDT) (PP&DT). The Stage II examination is only for qualification purposes.

Stage III (includes Final Selection Board (FSB)): 

  • The FSB lasts five days. 
  • This Stage includes a psychological test, a group task, and an interview (Personality test). 
  • The board conference is held on the final day and recommended candidates are then sent for Stage-IV or the initial medical examination.

Stage IV: 

  • Applicants who pass Stage-III must take a special medical examination at Base Hospital in New Delhi. 
  • Candidates declared unfit in the Special Medical Board (SMB) are included in the merit list because they have the right to appeal the verdict and must report for appeal medicals at a designated service hospital within 42 days of the completion of the SMB. 
  • If they are declared unfit during the appeal medicals, they have the option of having the results reviewed. 
  • In this case, the review is approved by the Director-General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) via the Directorate of Medical Services/CGHQ. 
  • If the review is approved, the designated hospital for the review’s execution is specified in the approval. RMB’s decision is final, and no further appeals will be accepted.

Stage V: 

  • Applicants who pass Stage IV and are on the All India Merit List will be provisionally selected for training and must report to INA Ezhimala for the Naval Orientation Course (NOC) as directed. 
  • The All India Merit List is based on the sum of Stage-I and Stage-III marks. 
  • Candidates reporting for training at INA Ezhimala must first undergo photo and biometric verification.

Exam Centres for Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Recruitment 

  • The Stage-I, i.e., screening test will be held at a number of exam centres across the country. 
  • Candidates must indicate their exam city preferences on the application form for the Stage I process. 
  • Candidates must fill their first choice within 30 kilometres of their current/communication residence. 
  • If no examination city is within 30 kilometres of the current address, the candidate’s first choice must be the city closest to the current address. 
  • The Stage II exam will be held in Noida, Mumbai/Goa, Chennai, and Kolkata. 
  • The Coast Guard Selection Board (CGSB) in Noida will hold the Stage III exam. 
  • Stage IV will take place at Base Hospital in New Delhi.

Indian Coast Guard AC Admit Card 2022

  • The Indian Coast Guard admit card is made available online separately for each Stage of recruitment. 
  • Candidates must enter the required credentials in order to download the admit card. 
  • A hard copy of the admit card is not mailed to candidates. 
  • The city of the exam will be displayed in the candidate’s login at least 10 days before Stage I. 
  • The admit card with the exam centre will be made available two to three days before the exam.
