  • Usage in a sentence: He was deposed and replaced by a more pliant successor.

4. Word:  Whip (सचेतक)

  • Pronunciation: hwip/ह्विप
  • Part of Speech: Noun, Verb
  • Meaning:
    a. a strip of leather or length of cord fastened to a handle, used for flogging or beating a person or for urging on an animal - Noun
    b. beat (a person or animal) with a whip or similar instrument, especially as a punishment or to urge them on - Verb

  • Usage in a sentence:  A good speaker can whip the crowd into a fever of excitement.

5. Word: Sagacity (विलक्षणता)

  • Pronunciation: suh-gas-i-tee 
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning:
    a. the quality of having or showing understanding and the ability to make good judgments
  • Synonyms: judiciousness, intelligence, shrewdness, discernment, wisdom
  • Antonyms: foolishness, silliness, ignorance, stupidity
  • Usage in a sentence: Despite having differences of opinion, the team was saved by the sagacity of its leader.

6. Word: Flail (पीटना)

  • Pronunciation: fleyl/ फ्लेल
  • Part of Speech: Noun, Verb
  • Meaning:  
    a. a threshing tool consisting of a wooden staff with a short heavy stick swinging from it. (Noun)
    b. wave or swing wildly. (Verb)
    c. beat or flog (someone). (Verb)
  • Synonyms: thrash, beat, lash, flog, knock, strike
  • Usage in a Sentence: They were flailing their arms to drive away the insects.

  • Antonyms: refute, deny, contradict
  • Usage in a sentence: The lawyer averred her client's innocence.

8. Word: Cohort (साथी)

  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning
    a. a group of people with a shared characteristic.
    b. an ancient Roman military unit, comprising six centuries, equal to one-tenth of a legion.
  • Synonyms: companion, ally, comrade, associate, colleague, company

9. Word: Probe (जांच करना)

  • Pronunciation: per-pawrt/ पर्पोर्ट

  • Meaning
    a. appear to be or do something, especially falsely. (Verb)
    b. the meaning or sense of something, typically a document or speech. (Noun)
  • Synonyms: claim, profess, pretend, gist, intention, purpose
  • Antonyms: abandon, disavow, disclaim, disown
  • Usage in a sentence:
    a. do you purport to spend the rest of your life on that couch, or do you think you might get a job someday? (Verb)
    b. The letter was not read aloud, but all present were informed of its purport. (Noun)
